Entry from: Edirne, Turkey Entry Title: “Edirne” Entry: “I visited the city of Edirne today, home of Mimar Sinan’s famed Sulimaniye Cami, or the Mosque of Suleyman. It is said by some people to be Sinan’s best work, which is quite the assertion considering the number and the scope of architectural projects he completed during his lifetime. The bus ride from Edirne to Istanbul was a bit hectic. Istanbul is a huge city and tours are not always right on time. The tour agency representative told me to be out in front of the agency at eight in the morning for my nine o’clock departure. Even though I was there at eight, the tour agency representatives did not show up until nine, whereupon they realized that there was, in fact, no departure to Edirne scheduled at nine that morning. One phone call later, they booked me a ten o’clock bus to Edirne through another travel agency called Radar. I got to Edirne on a freezing, dreary day. The transportation system in Edirne is fairly difficult to understand. No one in the city that I met spoke English (and believe me, I asked around) and the destination of buses are not marked on the buses themselves. Not knowing where I was going and with no one to turn to, I guessed that all buses would eventually lead me to the Sulimaniye Mosque (kind of like the “All roads lead …
